In August of 1989, I started at the University of Tennessee believing that I would study business and the law. But in my sophomore year, I took an introduction to marketing course that changed my life. I connected with the material in a way that felt like it was a part of me. The principles of marketing just clicked with me. I liked the art and science of it. The way it was and is the perfect puzzle to figure out. How to show people that you can meet their needs in your unique way. I was hooked. I declared my major and began my career.
I built my career and completed my MBA. I worked with small businesses, large banks, retailers, and national non-profits. I developed the ability to see not only the larger vision but to understand the importance of the pieces that must fit together to make that vision happen.
Then with some prodding from my Mom, I skeptically entered the world of online dating, where I met an amazing man, Sam. He became my best friend and biggest champion. He inspires me to live up to my potential as a woman, a daughter, a mother, a friend, and an entrepreneur. We built our lives and careers until we decided it was time to add to our family. For us, that journey that led us to Korea. Today I am the very proud mama of my daughter Mia.
One day my husband and I were talking at dinner about me starting a company. And my daughter, Mia, said, “Mommy’s job is being a mommy.” And that is my favorite and most important job, but I realized I wanted her to know I was more than that. I wanted her to know that women are capable of amazing things. I wanted her to have a belief that anything is possible in life if you believe in yourself and surround yourself with the right kinds of people.
And AMI was born. Amy Matthews Integrated is a Marketing Strategy firm based on the premise that great ideas can and should be nourished, encouraged, and supported. That great ideas from women entrepreneurs do and will completely change the world. I knew that I wanted to take that love of marketing along with that need to figure things out and blend it with my passion for seeing women achieve. I wanted to help women get the clarity that comes from having a real plan and understanding how to execute it. I wanted to show small businesses that they could stop throwing stuff at the wall.

Amy’s believes that lots of people will give you pieces of the marketing puzzle, but few will show you how to put them together into something that works. Her mission is to help you have a clear vision before you put the puzzle together.

For 25 years, she has worked with organizations both large and small, developing strategic solutions for sales, marketing, communications and operations. During that time she saw first-hand the pitfalls that can occur when these efforts lack focus and consistency. Amy has dedicated her work to a cross-functional strategic approach that focuses on fostering a customer-centric environment within an organization. This environment ensures all work is geared towards planning, building, and managing all stages of the customer’s brand relationship.
Amy’s approach goes far beyond posts and tweets. It creates a culture where customer feedback is not only asked for but welcomed and where an organization’s first question is “How will this be received by the customer?” not “Where should we place ads?”
Amy’s passion is to weave that customer focus into everything a company does. This means not only messages to customers but internal messages as well. By integrating the customer into everything you enable your organization to truly begin to live its vision. It is through these efforts that Amy helps entrepreneurs build big brands.
